Mordant

He was good company, with a mordant sense of humour and a strong sense of duty. 
Unfortunately, his brain was starved of oxygen and he was left brain damaged, with spastic paraplegia. 
His insouciance and could-not-care-less attitude is becoming intolerable. 
The law proscribes driving a car while intoxicated. 
Various scratches and cuts line her arms and face; a pus-filled abscess burns on her right arm.

With the concierge's aid, the man had been murdered.  The corrupt politicians are engaged in senseless recrimination.  They try to use her innocence as a leverage to gain sexual favour.

Enervation

James Thomson in "The Castle of Indolence" portrays a setting where the dwellers confront moral enervation due to their indulgence in luxury.   The woman is of tawny complexion.  Looking at Alec's murdered body, the landlady had goose flesh.  We bristle at the prospect of another interview.  She was wearing a beige skirt.
