Horses manducate mouthfuls of hay. 
Termites will honeycomb a porch made of untreated pine. 
The soothing music had an alleviative effect on the stressed students.

James Thomson in "The Castle of Indolence" portrays a setting where the dwellers confront moral enervation due to their indulgence in luxury.   The woman is of tawny complexion.  Looking at Alec's murdered body, the landlady had goose flesh.  We bristle at the prospect of another interview.  She was wearing a beige skirt.
