The otter family lives in the holt by the hill. 
Eliot claims that Shakespeare has dealt with an intractable material in Hamlet. 
In Prufrock, there are descriptions of sleazy hotels and sawdust restaurants. 
Eliot had drawn a lurid, stale atmosphere of modern society in most of his poems. 
Prufrock is living in a society which accolades tawdry stuff without essence.

With the concierge's aid, the man had been murdered.  The corrupt politicians are engaged in senseless recrimination.  They try to use her innocence as a leverage to gain sexual favour.

Enervation

James Thomson in "The Castle of Indolence" portrays a setting where the dwellers confront moral enervation due to their indulgence in luxury.   The woman is of tawny complexion.  Looking at Alec's murdered body, the landlady had goose flesh.  We bristle at the prospect of another interview.  She was wearing a beige skirt.
