Abstemious

We were very abstemious - teetotallers and non-smokers. 
Those are sterling qualities to be admired in anyone. 
I would not wish to give any ex cathedra opinion on this point. 
The Romans of old were a very wise people, yet, certes, they kept their faith in such matters. 
You have whetted my curiosity.

With the concierge's aid, the man had been murdered.  The corrupt politicians are engaged in senseless recrimination.  They try to use her innocence as a leverage to gain sexual favour.

Enervation

James Thomson in "The Castle of Indolence" portrays a setting where the dwellers confront moral enervation due to their indulgence in luxury.   The woman is of tawny complexion.  Looking at Alec's murdered body, the landlady had goose flesh.  We bristle at the prospect of another interview.  She was wearing a beige skirt.
