Let faith be your cynosure to walk by. 
The dog likes people he knows, but he is skittish around strangers.

Don't be fooled by his gruff manner; he is really very kind.

James Thomson in "The Castle of Indolence" portrays a setting where the dwellers confront moral enervation due to their indulgence in luxury.   The woman is of tawny complexion.  Looking at Alec's murdered body, the landlady had goose flesh.  We bristle at the prospect of another interview.  She was wearing a beige skirt.
